Socks For Heroes
Since Socks for Heroes started in May 2011, we have sent over 417,000 pairs of socks— along with food, hygiene gear, and other necessities— to our men and women serving overseas. Thats over 39 and a half TONS of socks!
Our son, Lcpl Donald J. Hogan, was killed protecting his brothers from an IED blast in Helmand Province Afghanistan during August of 2009.
In the time period that followed that tragedy, we spent a lot of time with the Marines who served with him. During each of our conversations with these men, we asked them what they needed the most.
Their answer was simple– Socks.
Support From the Ground Up
The infantry spends all of their time on their feet. Oftentimes they have no laundry facilities, so they have to wash their socks in the canals and other unclean water sources, which can render them unusable within a couple of days.
Gone are the mega-bases in Afghanistan and Iraq, along with the logistics chains that supported them. The burden for basic supplies has fallen more and more on the individual service member and their families.
Since our inception, we have sent over 390,000 pairs of socks to our Marines and Army units overseas. With the cuts in defense spending we have also been shipping basic hygiene gear as well as non-perishalbe food items to cover their needs.
Who We’re Helping
We are currently supplying Marine and Army units supporting the fight against radical Islamic fundamentalism in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Your help goes a long way in making their deployments easier by taking one more worry off of their minds, and letting them focus on the job at hand.
Donations are used to purchase socks and other supplies, and have them shipped to our brave American Heroes in harm’s way.
You can contribute on a one-time basis, or request email reminders on a monthly basis if you would like to continue your support through a unit’s deployment. You can also adopt a squad, platoon or a company of your choice.
Donations can also be mailed to:
