SCMCSG - Who We are

On August 26th of 2009, Carla and Jim Hogan opened the door to two Marines and a Navy Chaplain who informed them that their son, LCPL Donald Hogan had been killed in Afghanistan saving the lives of of a number of Marines he served with by putting himself between them and a Taliban Improvised Explosive Device, Donald demonstrated that there is no greater love than service and the Hogan’s reflect that in their actions. While the Marine Corps awarded their son the Navy Cross, the Hogans were bereft. To repay the kindness of the Marines who looked after them following his death, Socks for Heroes and the Southern California Marine Corps Support Group was born

Since May of 2011 the Hogans have shipped over 730,000 pairs of socks to Americans serving in combat zones around the world, provided recreational grants to Marine families so that their children could attend summer camps and swim lessons and have been a regular fixture at Marine unit deployments and returns providing food, drinks and a smile to thousands of young Americans who, like their son, have opted to serve their nation over themselves.

The Southern California Marine Corps is a registered 501 (C)(3) non-profit (Tax ID: 45-2846419)

We hope that you will help us with our mission of providing support for the men and women who care for us from “the ground up”
